Bitcoin has an uptime record of 99.99%
Litecoin is the only coin in the top 100 that has been up in all its lifetime and has lasted longer than 10 years.
Not even Bitcoin has that record.
Wait, Bitcoin had a downtime? Yes, for like 6 hours.
It happened in two different occasions for a total of almost 15 hours in total.
What caused this?
In August 15 2010, it was discovered that block 74638 contained a transaction that created over 184 billion bitcoins for two different addresses. The block chain had to be forked.
And in 2013 there were big problems with the 0.7 to 0.8 upgrade where there were two forks of bitcoin for hours and most bitcoin operators shut down for a period until it could be resolved.
Back then, Bitcoin was luckily not a mature ecosystem and the devs had to act super quickly to fix this.
